If you were to pass me on the street, you probably wouldn’t even look twice. I’m that normal. I’m just like you, only wealthier. I have it all. The kids, the family, the dog, a house on the hill. Hell—I’m so cliché, I even have a white picket fence. I guess you could say that I’ve dotted my I’s and crossed my T’s. But what I also have—what no one sees in yoga, or at Nieman Marcus, or during the dreadful Ladies Who Lunch charity events I attend (because only God knows why), and perhaps most importantly, in the school pick up line—are secrets.
Deep, dark, deadly secrets.
We all keep secrets, don’t we? We all have thoughts in our heads, things we do, things about us that if people knew, they’d be shocked…right? Well, what if one day we just decided to let the cat out of the bag, so to speak.
What if we decided to let the whole world in on our dirty little secrets? And what if along the way, as we were spilling those secrets, we realized that things aren’t always what they seem and with that knowledge, it changed the whole story?
In this book, I’m laying it all out there. The unraveling of my life. My coming undone. What one might’ve seen had they been paying attention.
What I’ve found in life is people often believe lies before they’ll believe the truth. Well, here it is, in a nutshell. I’ll let you decide which is which.
The extended version and in third person no less.;) Britney is married to a man she adores (when he isn’t driving her crazy) and is the mother of five amazing kids, who (surprise!) also have a habit of driving her crazy. Her best guess is that it’s genetic. In addition, Britney founded a local network for women in 2012, which has grown to over 1200 members. To further prove that she may in fact be certifiably insane, she decided to publish her debut novel entitled, Bedrock in May of 2013. Then and only then, would she consider her training to be an expert (life) juggler complete.

Carla’s Review:
*I was given a copy of this
book as a gift from Stephanie’s Book Reports in exchange for an honest
review.
4 stars for Around the Bend by Britney King. Although, I enjoyed this
book, my emotions were all over the place while reading it!
Whats a woman to do when everything that she has ever believed in turns out
to be a lie? This is the exact question that our heroine, Jess, is forced
to ask herself. After a tragic accident, Jess wakes up from a coma to find
her body mangled. The pain she feels is unbearable. She begins to take
way more pain medication than she should and on top of that she begins
drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. As if that is not enough, her
husband packs his bags leaving her and their two children. She soon finds
out that her husband has been keeping some huge secrets from her, and this
causes her to finally hit rock bottom.
Miles Ingram is 100 % alpha male. He is a Navy seal living with his own
demons. When he is hired on to work on Jess’ estate, he realizes that he
can help Jess dig herself out of the hole that she is in. As Miles works
to help Jess beat her addictions, an attraction between the two starts to
bloom. As their attraction grows, the result is a once in a lifetime kind
of love. Just when things seem to be falling into place, tragedy strikes
again leaving Jess to decide if she will stand strong or turn back to her
old ways of coping.
I would highly recommend this book! Just be sure to have your tissues near
and be ready for one heck of a book hangover.
TBird’s Review:
I was rather surprised with this book. It isn’t a long story, took me just
a few hours to read but will stay with me for a very long time. The author
did a fabulous job at taking some of the rawest emotions and events and
weaving them into a plot that will have the reader not only feeling the
pain and joy but thinking about their own lives in the process. The
characters are not only well developed they tell the story themselves. You
will see what they think and feel while their actions might not always
parallel their thoughts, you can understand why they are at this point in
life.
Jessica has been married to Spencer for years. They have two children that
are being raised by nannies but Jessica was very active in their lives till
the accident. Coming from a high society family, Jessica was never told no
in life and ran the race of society’s expectations for her. Once the wreck
happened her whole world started to take a turn down a dark road that
recovery never seemed to be possible.
Spencer, I felt was a cold hearted butt. He was so focused on business and
obtaining and controlling the money from Jessica’s family and business, he
never really was the interactive father and husband. When he couldn’t
handle being married to Jessica any more he took off for Africa and stopped
being her main line of support during her recovery. Jessica was addicted
to booze and pain pills, I don’t fault her, with her injuries and rehab,
the pain pills were the only thing that allowed her to function in physical
therapy and survive. She has now lost everything, even the ability to take
care of her own children.
This is where Myles comes in. Being a former SEAL, he was wanting a job
that would keep him busy and in constant supply of fresh women. He never
expected to fall for Jessica but with his controlling alpha ways, he was
just what she needed to find her way out of the tunnel of darkness life had
placed her in.
This might sound like a typical sad story romance but that is far from the
truth. At this point the author will twist your emotions and break your
heart. She will leave you yelling out of anger and cheering with joy. You
won’t know what hits you when the truth about why Spencer wanted the
divorce comes out and the reality behind the accident she was in. When
even more of the lies are exposed she is left to deal with their children
and her emotions about living a lie that she called marriage. I was so
sucked in, there was no putting this book down till I found out how it
ended. I would highly recommend this book to the readers and say keep
watching for more from this author.
