Book Description:
Twenty-four-year-old Pax Tate is an asshole. Seriously. He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad boy with a tough attitude to match. His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with an intense guilt that he doesn’t understand. What he does know is that he and his dad were left alone, and they have never been close. Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the black void in his soul. He pretends that the emptiness isn’t there and this has always worked . . . until he meets Mila.
Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air that Pax has never known in his life. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her¿but he quickly realizes that he’d better figure it out because he needs her to breathe. When the memories of his mother’s death resurface to haunt Pax, Mila is there to save him from his overwhelming guilt. Mila restores his broken heart, even as she evokes his powerful, sexual desires. Now for Pax to keep Mila, he needs to work on his issues and stop being an asshole. But is that enough to make her stay?
Book Review:
When I first purchased this book I thought it would be like so many of the others that have been published as of late. I love all of those stories, but this one stands out as special to me. I say it’s special because I actually cried during this story a little, and rarely does a book make me teary eyed.
I love how the book literally starts with Pax voicing he’s an asshole. He’s accepted the fact and offers no apologies for that behavior. The opening chapter is captivating and starts the stepping stones for Mila and Pax. She finds him passed out in his car overdosed on several drugs and calls for help. He’s out for four days in the hospital and when he wakes Mila comes in his room and her very presence makes him want to be a better person.
Ok…with that said and no spoilers Mila decides to give Pax a chance. She’s never dated a bad boy and he’s never dated. What a remarkable relationship these two build. Pax has lots of baggage and Mila is determined to walk through it with him. How amazing is it for your partner to walk through the most horrid moment in your life with you? Then you shut them out. You don’t want to deal with it. You refuse to “man up.” Would you still give yourself and your heart to the one who stepped all over you and your heart???
Will Milla and Pax survive? Oh my goodness. What a heart grabbing story! It’s a MUST READ.
