Review: 5 big hearts

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Everything I’ve Never Had has put Lynetta Halat on the if the write it I’ll read it list for me.  Lynetta is a huge talent and is an expert at writing an original and well developed story.  I loved the characters and that the story took a twist that made it so much more than what I expected from the blurb.

I enjoyed that the characters were older and that she was a single mom.  I really enjoyed the interaction between her and the boys.  They are smart and caring kids.  At times I got a little teary when they would talk to her.  I’m a softy I know.  I liked how Adrian stepped up to help care for the boys who weren’t his own.  He is sexy but this added to the sexy factor.

Celeste is a strong single mother.  I love that the book shows she has her kids but can still have her own life with good friends and she can still be sexy.  She dresses sexy in the book at times but it’s for her and how it makes her feel not for trying to get others to notice her.  I think she must almost have some sort of super power to be able to put up with her challenging family.

Adrian is a rocker and a marine which makes him a double dose of HOT!!!  In the challenging family dynamic they are all wrapped up in he is the black sheep but he seems like the sweetest guy outside of it.  He stepped up for Celeste and the kids when they needed him.  And OMGoodness he has a ton of swoonworthy moments in this book.

Celeste and Adrian without giving away too much.  I don’t want to do spoilers.  They are amazing together and really care for each other.  Even when they aren’t in a relationship but he’s there for her and the kids you can tell they they both really care and respect each other.  Then there are the times when they can’t stop the physical attraction and steel some moments before they decide it’s not a good idea with the family dynamic they are smoking hot together.  The book starts out with one of these smoking hot moments set to music.  It was one of my favorite parts!

There is so much more to the story and the story of Celeste and Adrian go get the book and fall for them like I have.

Hot Hero feature interview:

Tell us a little about yourself.

How did you start writing?

One word at a time! 😉 I actually started writing when I was young. But when I started writing my first book, I made voice recordings as every idea popped into my head and pretty soon a story was born.

I loved the story in Everything I’ve Never Had. What inspired you to write the book?

The craziest thing! One of my all time favorite songs is “Everlong” by the Foo Fighters. I’ve loved it for years, but about a year ago, I was sitting at a red light with my Addictions playlist on random and it popped up. I just thought…man, these lyrics are so powerful. I started imagining the kind of couple who would have this intense love and yearing for each other. I thought it’d almost have to be forbidden and desperate—Adrian and Celeste were born.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

Oh my goodness! That’s hard to say. I really loved writing this book. I had the most fun writing the bonus chapter though. I think it was because I knew every single thought that Adrian had in that moment. And I already had all the motions down so I could just relish in what he was feeling and let go.

Which comes first? The character’s story or the idea for the novel?

It really depends. With Every Rose  it was the characters. With Everything I’ve Never Had, it was the idea behind the novel. With Used, my WIP, it was her personal journey.

Military men are so hot especially Adrian.  Are they your favorite type of hero?

Umm…I like ‘em all! I’m not picky! I will say that artists, in general, are my go-to BBF!

Adrian is a Marine and the “family” are Navy men.  What made you chose military men?  Is there a special connection for you personally to the military?

Absolutely! My husband is retired Navy. My brother was a Marine. So much passion and loyalty and honor lie within these men that they are easy to write.

Without giving too much away I wanted to say that your book deals with serious issues our military men and women face every day.  I wanted to say thank you for discussing the issues and bringing them out in such an amazing way.                                                                               That is a very personal thing for me to address. I wanted to call attention to it, but I also didn’t want to lose the romance. Thank you for appreciating the way I handled it.

Now it’s time for the real serious questions…

You have multiple personalities, describe some of them.

Hahaha!!! I really do. You can find my control-freak self in Lorraina (Every Rose), you can find my fighter and passionate side in Celeste (Everything I’ve Never Had), and you will find Denver in Used definitely encompasses my naughtier, more screwed-up side.

I would kill for cupcakes. What is your favorite dessert?

Ice cream! LOVE it! My favorite flavor right now is Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter/Banana Frozen Greek Yogurt. My standby favorite is vanilla, though.

I love Disney movies.  What Disney character would you be and why?

OH! Umm…Dory from Finding Nemo. My motto happens to be “Just keep swimming.” And I think it would be cool to mess with everyone’s heads by forgetting what I’m doing every five seconds. Oh…wait…I already do that. 😀

If you were interviewing yourself, what are the top 3 questions you would ask yourself?

What are you wearing? Pajamas

Do you come her often? Yes, this is my home.

What’s your favorite coffee? Vanilla

Excerpt #1—Everything I’ve Never Had by Lynetta Halat—Sept. 2013  Adrian runs his hands up my arms and shoulders until they grasp both sides of my neck to tilt my head back so that I’m staring straight into his arctic blue eyes. I immediately start trembling, and it’s not with fear. “Celeste, I’m begging you not to leave here looking like that. You look gorgeous, babe, but I can’t sit here all night wondering who’s hitting on you, who’s imagining moving that scrap of fabric over to get a glimpse at what is…” “What is what?” I breathe heavily. “What is underneath it all.” His brow wrinkles, and I feel his hands tighten their pleasurably painful grip. “What is underneath it all?” “Just me, Adrian, just me,” I breathe. “That’s all.” “So everything then. Just like I thought.” He removes one of his hands to run it up the back of my thigh. My eyes widen and I swallow hard. “That’s not a good idea,” I whisper. His hand wraps all the way around my thigh, his fingertips coming to rest along the crease of my left cheek. My thigh pulses with fire. “Why not?” His fingertips tease back and forth a little. Even though it’s a light touch, it feels like his calloused fingertips mark me. “Why not? Look at us. We can’t even have a civil conversation for everything that has passed between us, and you want to further complicate it. What you’re doing will further complicate matters.” His hand stills. He exhales loudly and lets his head drop on my chest. “You do this to me. I don’t act like this. That day in the park, watching you cross and uncross your legs. Throwing your hair over your shoulder. Laughing without a care in the world. Cheering me on like it was your favorite thing to do! It killed me. Killed me. I’ve never wanted a woman the way I want you. Never.” His words rain down on me like fiery drops of lust. I close my eyes and rewrite that memory. I thought he was just being an ass, but his unexpected anger was because he was yearning for me. I bite my lip, open my eyes, and shake my head. “It’s just because you can’t have me, Adrian. I’m nothing special.” “Oh, baby, you have no idea.” He runs his nose up my throat, scenting me as he goes. I lean my neck back, giving him more access even as my brain screams at me to run—not walk—out of this room. But when he says, “You’re everything to me.” My head falls back even further and my eyes close again as I feel him slant his head and attack my chin, throat, and neck with closed-mouth kisses. I hear myself moan and give myself one more little jolt to try to spare myself from this delicious torment that will only end in frustration.
