Loosely based on a true story.
The town of Major is nothing more than a major disappointment for Zoe Parker. She is living in a grey world after the death of her beloved Mama, and can’t seem to shake the growing depression that threatens to consume her. Things only get worse when she discovers her longtime boyfriend is banging every chick in town.
Her daddy is gone most nights, and all she can think about is the boy who really caught her eye in high school more than five years ago… The one with gorgeous dark skin and smoldering eyes… Too bad he was dating her best friend. Now she floats around, moving through the daily routine with small dreams about getting away from the small town, and finding a real man to claim her heart…
Staff Sergeant Calvin Hall of the US Army is finally putting his boots back on American soil for some R&R. It’s been five years since he joined the military, and he hasn’t looked back since. After dealing with his own troubling past, he wants to lay back and enjoy some time to put it all behind him. But fate has other plans for him… A beautiful woman snags his attention the first day in town and the pull between them is too strong to resist. The problem? She is his ex-girlfriend’s best friend, she is just as broken as he is, and he has a war he has to get back to in two weeks.
Who says a summer romance ever has to end? What if thousands of miles and a war separated you? Would you keep dancing? Or would it simply be… a September Tango?
About the Authors-
Cassy’s Review:
When I was asked to read an ARC of September Tango by Scarlett Jade, I was really looking forward to it because I LOVED her book “Beautiful Downfall” so much. I had pretty high expectations, and I have to say, I wasn’t too disappointed. This story is completely different than “Beautiful Downfall”, So I tried to keep that in mind as I was reading. From the very beginning, the book captured my attention. The authors have a wonderful way with words and description to hook you right in. I felt as though I was right there. I could feel the humid heat, feel Zoe’s anger and despair. I could feel her and Calvin’s desperate lover for each other, as well as the sexual tension.
The characters in the story, I felt, were “real”. There’s Zoe, who may be a little overweight and have some confidence issues, which isn’t helped by her ex, Derek, who has slept with half the town, and always seemed to make her feel worse about herself. Then again, she has a feisty side and knows when to fight for herself. There’s Calvin, Zoe’s high school crush, home on R&R from the service for two weeks, whom she never thought she had a chance in Hell with. When they meet again, a strong connection is there, and they fall head over heels. He’s leaving in two weeks, so their time is limited. Calvin and Zoe wonder how on earth they will make it when he leaves. There are other surprises and obstacles in the book, which of course I will leave for the readers to enjoy.
All in all, this was a great read. Toward the end, I almost felt like the story was kind of dragging on, possibly with some filler. However, when I realized there would probably be a sequel, I thought maybe the author was trying to lead us up to the next installment. That’s why I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars. I do look forward to reading the next book to see what happens with Calvin and Zoe.
