Cassy’s Review:
***Copy of book received from author in exchange for an honest review.
This book will stay with me for a long time. This may be my top read of 2016 so far. This book hooked me in and never let go until I was finished. D.C. Renee’s writing flows smoothly and takes you on a roller coaster ride of feelings. I could feel Emerson’s multitude of emotions warring inside of her. And just when you think you know what’s going to happen, wham, a twist knocks you back a few notches.
Meet Emmerson, the girl known as ugly, a freak, a fatty. But that’s ok, that’s how she wants people to see her. See, when you feel ugly on the inside, that’s how you want people to see you right? That’s Emmerson’s way of thinking. So she puts on a costume every day, so that people will never see the real person underneath. Hiding under wigs, glasses, dark make-up she becomes all those things. She’s built her walls so high and thick, no one can get in. Ever since her father’s death when she was 12, she has been this way.
Meet Carter, the successful attorney, the man who can haven any girl he wants. The guy who thinks he can even date any girl for a period of time and when breaking things off, there will be no hard feelings. He even makes a bet with his friends he’s so sure. When his friends choose Emmerson for the bet, Carter’s beside himself, but a bet’s a bet. When he walks up to Emmerson, he doesn’t know he’s met the one person who can knock him back a few steps and put him in his place.
I loved the characters in this book. I loved how witty and strong Emmerson is, even though she’s so weak in other areas. I love how Carter and his friends learn a the lesson of a lifetime. I will definitely be checking out D.C. Renee’s other books. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this story! I’d give it 10 stars if I could.
DC Renee has been writing all her life, from cheesy poems in elementary school
(i’ll share an example just so you know how cheesy: Flowers are my favorite
thing; they usually bloom during spring. Pink, blue, yellow and green, so many
colors that I have seen…etc.) to short stories and monologues, and eventually
fan fictions for Days of Our Lives. It was thanks to that superbly encouraging fan fiction community that DC found
the courage to publish her first book – Let Me Go. It held fast in the top 100
Best Selling Contemporary Romance Fiction Novels on Amazon for over a month,
going as low as the top 20’s. Naturally, she loves to read, but she also likes
watching hockey, dancing for fun, and loves her family.
