Burn with Me is one heck of an emotional read! From the moment they first set eyes on one another, the connection between Caleb and Amber is overpowering. It is a living, breathing thing that neither one of them can deny.
Caleb is the quintessentional “dark and mysterious stranger”. From the very beginning, I wanted to know all of his secrets, and if all the hints about his past weren’t enough, I became enthralled by Caleb’s description of himself….“My soul is dark and tainted. I’m not a hero. I’m a monster. The evil lives on inside of me. I will never escape what I did or what happened to me”. Um..hello, that alone made me want to devour this book!
Like Caleb, Amber has a dark past. However, instead of hiding from the world like Caleb has done, she has chosen to embrace her life and not dwell on the bad. She is incredibly strong, and from the moment she first feels the unquenchable spark that exists between herself and Caleb, she is determined to break down all the walls he has built around his life as well as his heart.
For fear of spoilers, I am not going to reveal any further details about the story. However, I will tell you to buckle up because Caleb and Amber’s story is not one for the faint of heart!

This book could contain triggers for some people. There are some dark events that take place in this book.
Caleb thinks he is a monster. He secludes himself in his apartment and only really goes out for a run. It’s his stress relief. He doesn’t talk to anyone except the only friend he has, Josh. He is convinced he doesn’t deserve love. That he is such a monster he only deserves pain for the things he has done. No one could love him but that doesn’t stop him from wanting it when he meets Amber. He can’t get her out of his head. She’s consuming every part of his mind. Caleb though knows the minute she finds out about his past, about where he’s been and what’s he’s done, she will hate him.
Amber is moving to Portland to start a new life and be near her best friend. She has no desire to deal with a man nor does she intend to meet one. But then along comes Caleb. He’s a mystery and tries to hide his dark eyes and face from the world. Amber wants to know more about him. Want turns to need and need turns to obsession. Amber is determined to know what Caleb is hiding. When the fires of passion and the past collide Amber has to decide weather she wants to let Caleb endure the pain alone or Burn with him?
Caleb is a character that your going have to work to get to know. He doesn’t want anyone to know anything about him and as a reader you want to know his secret so bad you can’t stand it. It’s that fact that kept me reading at times when I wanted to give up. I liked Lucas who is Caleb’s best friend a lot He brought the charm and humor to the book at just the right times. I also really liked Amber. She’s one thought cookie and I don’t know that many people could endure all the things that happen to her. Her best friend Lily has been her only friend for years. This is where at times I thought I was going to lose my mind. When Lily and Amber would go out together I felt like for college girls, and for someone who had such a dark past, they acted like the most immature girls in the world. It literally drove me nuts. I swear they were sillier and worse than my teenage daughter and her best friends during sleepovers at our house. I nearly laid this book down because of it several times.
This story is not easy to read at times and will break your heart. I had to know what was going to happen with Amber and Caleb. What Caleb’s big secret was. Aside for the girls driving me nuts this is a pretty good book.
