Mercy by Debra Anastasia Release Review

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

My father taught my to kill. Murder was is in his blood now. I make sure to hide the monster that I see in the mirror with ink but it does not keep him from coming out. My street name is Mercy but I never show any. Except for Becca, even though she doesn’t know. She saved me a long time ago; the day my father killed my mother. Her bravery turned her into a target. My father holds a grudge and a knife with the same proficiency and Becca is the focus of his hatred. I am the only monster who can save her.

Oh how I loved this book. In Mercy we meet Nix who has hidden his face from the world by putting ink from the top of his head to the bottom of his toes and it quiet frankly scares people. He is not a good man and he certainly wasn’t raised with a good father. His father is mean and nasty and has killed right in front of Nix. Now grown he is determined to find his father and make him pay for what he did to his mother years ago. On the day his mother died though a young girl stood up for him in the grocery store by telling his father to let him go and his father never forgot her. Neither did Nix and he has been watching her. For all these years he has known everything there is to know about her yet has never spoken to her since that day. Now the opportunity presents itself to meet her as he is with all his ink on his body and it not freak people out. How will Becca react to Nix. Will she remember her? Will she accept him for who he is? Is he putting her in more danger? Will he tell your everything there is to know about who he is and what he does?

I loved these characters. Poor Nix never stood a chance with the parents he was given and though he has done things I still thought he was an amazing character and I rooted for him though this whole entire book. Becca is smart and sassy and has a mom who is so pushy and determined for her to find a good man and marry. They cracked me up. Then there is Becca’s best friend Henry. She is a hoot and cracked me up and has quiet the mouth on her. I loved their friendship. And lastly Animal, Nix best friend….his family. I fell in love with him too and at the end of the book when I found out his story was coming I was so happy. I so can not wait to find out more about Animal.

This book is absolutely amazing. It is a must read. A little on the darker side of life but I thought it was an amazing love story and a story of courage and survival. Debra Anastasia has written an absolutely amazing book and I so can not wait for Animal.
