Book Description:
When I was nineteen years old, I lived for sex, drugs and a good party. I had it all – good looks, a fast car and a hot girlfriend. Nothing in life was more important.
That was, until I met Ellison James….
Since the moment I first saw her she was a raging bull; tackling me in the mud and throwing out insults as fast as her tongue could form the sound.
She was snarky
She was rude
And she pissed me off like no other woman could.
I lived beside her for a summer and in the three months that I walked by her side…
She opened my eyes
She changed my life
And she made me a better man

PLAYLIST:
Review: 5+ hearts loved, loved, loved every heart shattering second
I was given the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I want to start by telling you that this is the hardest review I have ever had to write. This story has seeped its way into me and I can’t even think about it without getting teary eyed. I think it is an amazingly written story that is SO much more than the synopsis makes it out to be.
“And I realized it was official…Ellison James was a wizard.”
I adore Ellison because she is feisty, stubborn, and strong. She isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with anyone as I learned from when she tackled Hunter to the ground and got into his face. She also isn’t afraid to tell you what she thinks and how it is. This is a big reason she was able to get through to Hunter. Ellison has had so much bad stuff to face in her life but she is strong and she takes on the fight even though she needs to learn that she doesn’t always have to fight alone.
“I was there to lend her strength and I was there to let her know that she didn’t walk her path alone.”
At the beginning of the book Hunter is not the greatest of guys. As the story progressed he transforms into a great guy. It just blows me away how much he changed in a summer. The way he repeatedly goes out of his way to show his friendship and support for Ellison even when she was to stubborn to take accept it really touched me. At times I wanted to go into the book and yell at him while other times I wanted to fight for him.
“You know it’s really creepy when you stare like that.”
They dynamic between Hunter and Ellison from the very beginning drew me to them and what was going on with them. It started out so snarky and sarcastic it was fun and made me smile. As the story went on it evolved as the story and the characters did into something much deeper.
“Why do you keep chasing after me, Hunter?”
“Because you are a dream and someone once told me that if I had a dream, I should chase it.”
There is so much I want to tell you about this story and all of the reasons that it has touched me but I don’t want to ruin it for you. I will tell you that going into the book I was told I would cry but I had no idea that I would cry through over half of the story. I am a baby but it was more than that. There was part of the story that I won’t go into that I could personally relate to and the way she described those scenes brought back memories and broke my heart for the people involved because I had been there to some extent and I knew what it was like. I just wanted to rush in and comfort and rescue. This book took me forever to read because I had to find times to do it when I was along because my four year old wouldn’t understand why mommy cried so hard reading a book. This book shattered my heart and I loved every minute of it. I am so glad that M.S. Willis wrote it and that she took on this story line. This is one book that will stay with me forever and like I said I can’t even think about it without getting emotional.

Excerpt
I approached Ellison and we stood nose to nose and chest to chest because I’d walked up so close. She craned her neck to look up at me and I raised my hands to smooth down her arms. But I couldn’t touch her. I held my hands at her shoulders and I looked down at her longingly, but I just couldn’t push past the thin, invisible force that seemed to surround her. I didn’t want to be like Finn. I didn’t want to push myself on her when she was already upset about something else. It wasn’t fair to her. The energy from her body brushed across my palms and I felt twisted up inside because I couldn’t actually touch her.
She blinked slowly and the blue was shining in contrast with her red-rimmed eyes. I could smell the beer on her and she swayed slightly. “Please don’t, Hunter. Please don’t make this harder.” Her voice was a breathy whisper and I closed my eyes in reaction to it. I wanted to do more than touch her. I wanted to sweep her up in my arms and cradle her to me. I wanted to hold her until all the pain and worry left her body. I wanted to tell her I’d take care of her, I’d cherish her, I’d…that, in reality, I’d end up leaving her.
I’d never felt pain before like I did at that moment. It tore at me. Physical pain shot through my body and my chest tightened. But I pulled my hands back to myself. I protected her heart by not touching her.
For once, I was trying not to be the selfish bastard I knew I was.
