At least, that’s what it feels like, a puzzle whose pieces no longer fit right. She knows one thing though: never trust your heart. It won’t lead you right, it’ll trick you. Betray you. And in the end, it’ll kill you. Phoenix Wilder is angry. At least, that’s what it feels like, eating him up inside. He knows one thing though: never trust your heart. It won’t fix things, it’ll break them. Taint them. And in the end, it’ll destroy them. Once upon a time, Harleigh and Nix were everything to each other. They shared their secrets, their hopes and dreams. But things are different now. They’re different. And maybe everything they remember was nothing but a lie.

Renee’s Five Star Review

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is the first book in the Darling Hill Duet. This is the story of Harleigh and Nix and you are going to be hook from the very first word you read. Their story too is not going to be sunshine and lollipops either. I knew that it was going to be something amazing when I got finished reading the prequel These Dark Hearts. These two didn’t have the best life and while growing up in the trailer park they became best friends. For Nix she was his Birdie and to her she wanted it to be more than friendship. But when tragedy strikes Birdie leave the trailer park to live with her dad and his family on the other side of town in a mansion. After so many thins have happened and Nix hasn’t heard from her he makes a little trip to see how Birdie is doing and doesn’t want to believe she’s where she is now. I have to stop telling about the story before I give something away. I loved reading this book. It was an edge of your seat, what the heck is going to happen now kind of read and I couldn’t put it down.

About the Author: Author of over thirty mature young adult and new adult novels, LA COTTON is happiest writing the kind of books she loves to read: addictive stories full of teenage angst, tension, twists and turns.   Home is a small town in the middle of England where she currently juggles being a full-time writer with being a mother/referee to two little people. In her spare time (and when she’s not camped out in front of the laptop) you’ll most likely find LA immersed in a book, escaping the chaos that is life. Connect w/L.A. About Renee Henson

Renee Henson has an obsession with reading and reviewing. Especially anything that is a dark romance, fairy tale retelling, MC, and is trying her best to love the PNR worlds. Nothing is quiet as exciting to her as reading a good book and then talking about it or making comments while reading with her friends that have read the book too. She is always happiest with her kindle in her hand and her nose is a book. She has been reviewing for Stephanie's Book Reports for over ten years.
