I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

Her toxic past. His dangerous future. A love worth dying for.
Claire
When I’m forced to move across the country, I use the unfortunate situation to distance myself from my abusive ex. I swear off sexy bad guys only to-quite literally-be knocked down by one the second I step into the courtyard of my new apartment complex. He doesn’t even apologize-he just walks off! Tired of being treated like I don’t matter, I forget those emerald eyes and focus on securing a college scholarship. But fate throws us together when we enroll in the same English class, and I’m forced to tutor him. That’s when I discover there’s good hidden beneath the surface. But there are secrets too.
Johnny
Working for a criminal organization means no one around me is safe. I only took the job to protect the innocent and now I’m just biding my time, hoping to get out alive. When Claire walks into my life, it’s like a defibrillator to my heart. I vow to stay away, to make her hate me, to keep her from harm. But it’s becomes impossible when we’re thrown together, both at the college we attend and the complex we live in. And once I get a taste of how sweet she is, there’s no turning back. The desire to please and protect her is far to strong to resist. But when secrets are exposed and our pasts come back to haunt us, we’re not just fighting for our hearts-but for our lives.

This book is a gritty suspenseful standalone set in the Sinners and Angels Universe. There may however be some scenes that could be triggering for some readers so proceed with caution. This was also previously published as individually titled books Tortured Sinners and Fallen Angel by Tessa James. I have not read those book so this was all new to me and I am sad to admit that it was my first time reading a Luna Pierce book.
This is the story of Claire and Johnny. Claire is a girl who is doesn’t have the best of luck with the bad boys she is attracted to and she has already had to leave one behind to escape that abusive relationship. She has a very clear picture of what she wants her college life to be like and didn’t expect it to be her moving back in with her estranged mom and going to college. She is a good girl who just got in bad situations and it haunts her at times. She is trying her best to move one and has sworn off bad guys. So when one of those bad boys literally runs in to her in the courtyard of the apartment complex he doesn’t even apologize to her at all and just keeps going. However those emerald eyes and bad boy swagger are attractive to Claire. But he made her feel like she didn’t matter at all and she is really tired of feeling that way so the best thing to do is forget that ever happened. She never expects to see him again in her college English class and then have to be his tutor. But she soon discover there is good underneath all his attitude he shows the world. Johnny is a guy who is working for the local criminal empire. He however is a guy who took the job to protect the innocent and he is just biding his time until he can get out. He however has closed himself off to so much and when he and Claire start getting to know each other she makes him feel things that he thought he was uncapable of feeling anymore. This is a story filled with twist and turns and losts of secrets. Shocking moments that will blow your mind and have you on the edge of your seat and reading as fast as you can. I really loved this story. It will break you but don’t worry Luna Pierce makes sure that you are whole again when you close the book. I really really loved it so much.

About Renee Henson

Renee Henson has an obsession with reading and reviewing. Especially anything that is a dark romance, fairy tale retelling, MC, and is trying her best to love the PNR worlds. Nothing is quiet as exciting to her as reading a good book and then talking about it or making comments while reading with her friends that have read the book too. She is always happiest with her kindle in her hand and her nose is a book. She has been reviewing for Stephanie's Book Reports for over ten years.
