Once upon a time, I was meant to be one of the three leaders of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳.
But I was born with two irrevocable flaws:
A conscience and the ability to love.
Both cost me the one person that made life worth living.
Losing her made me become 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘵.
I watched the consequences of my former world unravel, fighting from the shadows against the person who took everything from me.

I was the firstborn Cartwright, destined by my family’s legacy to run the Institute.
If you didn’t follow 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳, we would find a way to make you.
I accepted my position—until George Weiler.
He took me by surprise. Made me want things I was never meant to have.
One kiss turned into a forbidden love story.
No one betrayed 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳. Until me.
And for that, I paid the price.
Unbeknownst to everyone, I’ve been waiting in the dark to take back what is mine.

Renee’s Five Star Review
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
This is the story of George and Eloise. She is the firstborn Cartwright. She was destined to by her family’s legacy to run the Institute. She knows that no one betrays The Order. They will always find a way to make the person follow. Then she meets George who was supposed to be one of the three leaders of The Order. However him having a conscience and the ability to love makes that impossible. Both of those things cost him the one person that made his life worth living. That is how he became The Ghost. He has watched the consequences of his former world unravel and he has been fighting in the shadow against the person who took everything away from him. Then he meets Eloise and one kiss turns their story into a forbidden love story. She will betray The Order for him and pays the price. However, she too is waiting in the dark to take back what is rightfully hers.
This is a dark second chance romance that involves modern day organized crime with a Romeo and Juliet vibe. It is also the prequel to The Dark Series and The Davis order. I have read Rezoned that is the start of The Davis Order and I have read The Dark Trilogy and I am excited to get to meet Eloise and George as they are younger than when we met him as an adult in The Dark Series. It is his backstory as well as an introduction to her series. I loved how it was broken down into the past. This covers the time he comes home from college and then you go to the Present and each chapter is broken down into which book and series this is in the time period of. I really appreciated that. Even if you have not already read the books she is referencing your not going to be lost. I loved these characters and the journey they took. George and Lou are so perfect for each other.

Born and raised in Germany, Danah moved to the U.S., where she met her husband, eventually trading downtown Chicago’s city life for the northern Rockies.
She can be seen hanging with her twin girls and exploring the outdoors when she’s not arguing plot points with the characters in her head.
But it’s that exact passion which has originally produced The Dark Series and continues to keep her glued to her laptop, following her dreams.
