Something like Normal

Book One

Monica James

I have a secret…

And I’ve kept this secret hidden since I was eight years old. But I’ll no longer allow my past to define me.

A fateful decision has left me a fugitive on the run. I should be afraid, yet I’ve never felt more alive.

My name is Mia Lee, but that person died the night I spilled blood and didn’t feel a thing.

I’m on a Greyhound bus, ready to start a new life. A life that includes finding my mother, who left without a word when I was three.

But I end up meeting four people who change my life forever. And one person, in particular, shakes things up beyond repair.

Quinn Berkeley.

He’s just as damaged as I am. And harbors secrets just as dark as mine. But he gives me hope that living a normal life is within reach.

However, the blood on my hands has forever stained my soul.

No one can outrun their past.

Especially one filled with bitter memories that refuse to remain…dead.

Renee’s Five Star Review

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is the first book in the Something Like Normal. Told entirely from Mia/Pagie point of view this is her story. Mia has grown up her entire life without her mom and she never understood how she could leave her all alone with her horrible father. He’s an addict and her life is absolutely not what any child’s life should ever be. One night she knows she has to do something and things get out of hand quickly. Now she is on the run, changed her name to page and is grabbing the first ticket out of town to the sleepiest little place she can find. Ending up in South Boston she finds a seedy motel and the man who runs it offers her a job. This is the beginning of her finding her people. She meets Hank at the hotel and I have to tell you now that I fell in love with that sweet little man. Tabitha and she meet when she goes to the diner in town and leaves up leaving with a job. Tristan is the guy who hires her to work at the diner and Quinn who does odd jobs around the hotel and also is Tristan’s brother. These four people are going to be her friend and Paige is a girl who has never had many friends at all. How could she with the life her father had her leading. She’s never been on to even have a crush on a guy but Quinn brings out feelings in her that she never knew existed. He does however keep pushing her away and Tristan has the biggest crush on her and really likes her in a way that she just can’t feel back because of how she feels for Quinn. But, just when you think things are going to be great for all of them, the past comes screaming back into her life in the most horrific of ways. I think that my heart nearly stopped twice toward the end of this book. I actually was mad. So so mad really that I nearly threw my kindle. So we are left hanging on by our fingernail until the next book and I so need to know what is going to happen. I didn’t lay this book down once I started it. It was a really great read. You don’t want to miss it.
