In a world where shared pizzas turned into shared spreadsheets, Jae Lee and I morphed from best friends to colleagues to… frenemies. Yes, you got that right. As his go-to assistant, I remembered everyone’s coffee orders, but somehow, my own birthday got lost in his busy CEO schedule. Sending flowers to myself? Not my proudest moment, but sometimes, a girl just has to take matters into her own hands.

That low point hit me like a bucket of ice water—it was painfully clear I was just another task on his never-ending to-do list. So, I slapped down my resignation—it felt like a breakup, minus the dramatic tears and squabbles over who gets the goldfish. I was ready to walk away and reclaim my life, chart my own course. But just as I was about to turn the page, Jae threw in a plot twist: he wasn’t ready to let me go.

What came next? A whirlwind of fake engagements and real feelings. As we played pretend, something genuine began to bloom. Could this frenemy fiasco turn into our forever after?

Renee’s Five Star Review

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is the story of Jae and Verena. These two have been best friends since college. Once out of college he became her boss and she was his assistant. However, things really begin to change and he is turning into a bossy, rude, inconsiderate boss and she is not taking it anymore. She has gone from his best friend to now being treated just like she is an employee only and she finally gets brave and quits. I know this decision was super hard for her in some way and in others a no brainier. I wouldn’t like either if my best friend forgot that we were friends and only focused on work and was so bossy toward me. This is a situation where you have to be able to take working with your bestie on the chin, but this is beyond just taking in on the chin a time or two. It’s like he totally forgets about anything but business. Now, though he needs her and come up with a six month plan to keep her in his life. Fake fiance’s is the plan he comes up with. What follows makes this story really great. I loved the flashbacks. I loved that these two were such good friends and have to fight for that friendship and ever the more of it all. I can’t leave out Auntie. She is such a great characters. Without her this s Tory wouldn’t have happened. This was a great little book. I really loved reading it.

About Renee Henson

Renee Henson has an obsession with reading and reviewing. Especially anything that is a dark romance, fairy tale retelling, MC, and is trying her best to love the PNR worlds. Nothing is quiet as exciting to her as reading a good book and then talking about it or making comments while reading with her friends that have read the book too.
