Guest Post: Reforming A Wild Child by Jamie Beck
Thank you for inviting me to talk about my recent release, WHEN YOU KNEW. This book is the final Cabot novel, which series has followed the siblings of a dysfunctional blended family as they each get second chances in life and love. And Gentry Cabot needs those second chances for herself and for her son.
Gentry has never quite fit in with her ambitious, conservative family, and she carries a chip on her shoulder from being raised by nannies. She also grew up across town from her older brother and sister, who share a close connection—something she envies. A sense of neglect and rejection combined with her quirky sense of humor drives her rebellious behavior until her one-night stand with a stranger whose name she doesn’t know results in an unplanned pregnancy.
Suddenly, all of her priorities shift. She wants to ensure that her son never feels lonely, so she sets out to build bridges with her family by going to work for the family business. She’d planned to put her son in daycare (where he’d be surrounded by kids) but an infection-induced fever and his chronic colic temporarily derail her. Enter Ian Crawford, a humanitarian EMT who needs a quick injection of cash so he can return to Haiti. Gentry hires him on a temporary basis, and once he moves in, these two opposites start to bring out things in each other that neither expects.
Ian has spent most of his adult life helping people in crisis, both at home and abroad. As such, he’s got a low tolerance for First World problems, which earns him the nickname of McJ (short for McJudgypants). Initially, these two seem to have nothing in common. But Gentry notices that, although his childhood sounds ideal on the surface, he’d actually yearned for his father’s approval and attention and, deep down, now craves the kind of connection and stability she also wants.
At first, readers might assume this will be a story where the good guy teaches the bad girl about what really matters. However, while Ian’s experiences do open Gentry’s eyes to things she didn’t give much thought to before, Gentry’s outlook ends up having an even bigger impact on Ian’s perspective and ability to let himself enjoy his own life in a way he’d never before thought possible. And when Gentry’s son’s bio-daddy reenters the picture, everything shifts for all of them.
Ultimately, this is a story about family, forgiveness, and finding a connection that makes you the best version of yourself. I hope readers enjoy the way this love triangle plays out.

Summary
Gentry Cabot’s rebellious life comes to a screeching halt when a one-night stand leads to a sobering new reality: motherhood. Exhausted and overwhelmed, the former wild child struggles to raise an infant on her own. After a lifetime of feeling like the odd Cabot out, Gentry knows that what her son needs most is family. For his sake, she plans to rebuild bridges with them, but first she needs a little help on the home front.
Humanitarian worker Ian Crawford has devoted his life to service. Forced to temporarily return stateside, he’s eager to head back to Haiti to expand the nonprofit he just founded in his late father’s honor. He can’t do that without money, so when Gentry offers a hefty paycheck for a short-term gig as a live-in nanny, he can’t afford to say no. Ian expects to deal with a barrage of privileged problems. What he doesn’t expect is how quickly being a makeshift father transforms him.
Despite his growing attachment to Gentry and her child, Ian still has his dreams, and Gentry wants a full-time dad for her son. When the baby’s father reenters the picture, will Gentry and Ian embrace the family they’ve formed or end up worlds apart?
