My parents thought emigrating from Germany to the American frontier was going to be a good thing for everyone. But it seems that a darkness is doomed to follow us wherever we go.
Life can be harsh and unforgiving in this world, especially for a woman. Luckily, I have my brother, Thomas, to watch out for me and protect me. He can only do so much, though, and after that vile attack, I find myself in need of his protection more than ever. It was then I realized that festering darkness came from within.
Although society won’t take kindly to it, we have forsaken God and embarked on an unholy life, but just as things finally began to calm down, the past reared its ugly head and came back to tear us apart and destroy and everything we’ve built.
But as Thomas once told me, I would ride my steed through the fires of hell to salvage the only thing worth living for, and if the devil gets in my way, he will beg to God for mercy.
We will be free.
Renee’s Four Star Review
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Well I have to say that has some dark elements but I’m not so sure that what was most shocking to be is the relationship between the two main characters. I so wasn’t prepared for that and by the time you get there you’re to far in to quit. If taboo relationships bother you then you might be bothered by this book. I am warning you now but there is more to the story than just that. This is the story of a family that immigrates from to a small western town and then a little later to a inn and store on the actual frontier trail. But they live in a small town and everyone of he boys in that town knows that they can not even really speak to Kate without the wrath of Thomas following shortly after. Many men pay attention to Kate and she soon discover from the new doctor in town that she has a love of medicine too and trains her to be his assistant but in reality she is basically doing his job because he likes to hit the sauce to much. She has another admirer too and she refuses all gifts and wealth he tries to bestow on her all while being mindful of Thomas but Thomas and his father go out of town a lot for jobs. But Thomas takes care of his sister and everyone knows it so if you pick on her you are just as well picking on Thomas too. He loves her after all and she knows that this is wrong but the way they were raised by there parents it seems natural to them. Things get crazier and crazier in this book and I need to stop telling you about the story or you won’t be as shocked as I am. This was a little hard for me to read because of the brother/sister relationship. I’m not going to lie but I thought the story was well written. Kept me on my toes and I had to know how it ended and what a shocker that was too.
Beckett loves writing short, erotic stories as much as she enjoys reading them. Happily ever afters and hot, possessive, alpha men bring tears of joy to her eyes so please excuse the alpha males roaming her trashy pages, they can’t help it.
Born somewhere in the United States, Beckett now resides somewhere in the United States where she writes raunchy stories. Hey, a girl’s gotta have some secrets.
