His past was gaining ground and threatening all the secrets he desperately tried to hide. His present was slowing him down, making him feel emotions he buried years ago. The two are about to collide. Will Trey survive the impact?

Stephanie’s 4 Star Review:

I love the Devil’s Lair band.  They are all such anomalies.  Trey Taylor not being an exception.  He’s been this standoffish character the entire series.  I love his quirky one liners when Hunter tries to rile him up or when Layla nags him over anything.  He’s such a smart guy I was looking forward to learning more about what made Trey – Trey.

Lots of horrible things make Trey – Trey.  He discovered “real live” too soon and in turn learned how to cope with it for the most part.  I think there’s a lot of real life instances in this character and he could totally mimic someone’s real life – not necessarily including the band.  It takes serious drive to pull yourself out from where Trey was raised and turn himself into a great musician.

Though Trey felt he had to live his life on the run for the majority of the time he covered his tracks well and he had very few friends.  Thus making it easier to pick up and run when it was necessary.  He was making headway but then comes Tara.  She instantly puts his life on pause.  Assaulting memories of a different time – different person – but she’s not Tara.  Tara calms him.  Helps him feel whole.  But this can’t last.  It won’t work for Trey.

Just as he’s about to break down and tell all….his past  jumps up and bites him in the butt.  This is the best part of the story for me.  I love it when Trey actually has to man up.  He really has to dig deep to show his friends he really does care and trust them.  A huge step for this character.

I think AM Madden did a great job with this book.  The mysterious Trey Taylor became someone real during this story.  His fears the readers fears.  His loss the readers loss.  I think the author did a great job creating his back story and carrying it out to the end of the present.  Trey is one of my favorites of the band and I was excited to read his story and the way he really perceived the world.
