This is the first book in the New York Underworld. I have to say that I was so excited to be diving into a new Charmaine Pauls series. This is the story of Anya and Saverio.
Anya is in a very very bad and deadly position. She really witnessed something she shouldn’t have. To make matters worse the person that did it caught her and is now forcing her to lie for him. This in turn makes her an accessory to the crime that took place. Add to it horrible family circumstances and a whole heap of unsolvable problems and this poor girl is sinking fast. Saverio is the right hand man to one of the most powerful Mafia bosses in New York. He is ruthless and a stone cold killer when he has to be. However his potion is never one that is safe and he really has to watch his back all the time. After all when your the right hand of the man, someone always wants to knock you out of that seat and take it for themselves. When his boss wants the prettiest girl Saverio has ever laid his eyes on out of the picture, he knows he doesn’t have time for her. But that doesn’t stop him from doing some things that he absolutely could lose his life over, but he also is our to save her from all of her problems. I loved Saverio. He was super protective of Anya, attentive to every need she could possibly ever have. He is a great anti-hero who has not choice but to have Anya as basically his captive but also her hero in so many ways. I loved Anya. I think she find strength she didn’t even realize she had. She has a great heart and she and Saverio who shouldn’t work on paper are absolutely amazing together. This book is filled with twists and turns and you are going to love every second of it. Since this is a trilogy I absolutely can not wait to get my hands on the next book.
