This is the first book in The Darkest Dance Series. It is the story of Lyra and Carmine. Lyra is a ballet dancer. But she is also a girl who has dealt with a lot of trauma. And that still continues to this day because her mom is always drunk and very cruel. She blames Lyra for her fathers death. But Lyra had a terrible father who had a lot of debts and her life feels like it is always in danger. She needs money to pay off her fathers debt and put this all behind her. One day when she has had a long practice she is the last one to leave and overhears Carmine talking business with some other men. The thing for her to do would have been to turn around and go, go, go but she hides and Carmine knows that she is hiding. He can sense her doing this. There first meeting is the moment he realizes that he is really drawn to her. Carmine is a powerful man and these two have some serious fire between them. But he also needs a wife and is willing to pay for one. Now is the chance for Lyra to take care of all her problems and move one. But will she? I loved these two characters. They will suck you into this story and you will not be able to lay it down. You need this book in your life.
