Just like a bird.”   Macayla   “He’s rude, abrupt, and doesn’t know how to smile.”   My new landlord, ex-Special Forces Vic Gate, is intense, and even that’s too domesticated a way to describe him. Extreme raw power seems more appropriate. Or maybe godlike, except there isn’t anything forgiving or merciful in him. Then again, he gave me and my little boy Jackson a week to vacate his cabin instead of seven minutes.   But the dangerously quiet, six-foot-four muscled wall does something to me. And it’s way more than a sweet fluttering in my belly. This is an eagle-diving, bee-stinging, fire-breathing-dragon fluttering that causes all kinds of chaos inside me.   He’s everything I need to stay clear of. And it shouldn’t be hard, considering he wants nothing to do with us. Until his protectiveness emerges, and I soon discover there is much more to the cold, gruff Vic Gate.   But falling for a highly trained killer with nightmares crammed into his dark, lethal eyes comes with consequences. The question is whether I can survive them.   Vic Gate   “You won’t survive me, rainbird.”   Cold. Hard. Unbending. Nothing unhinges me. That is, until her. The little rainbird perched inside my cabin with her ocean eyes that are scarred into me. Now I want more. The problem is whether I’ll destroy her in the process. Full Length standalone.

Renee’s Five Star Review

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

The is the first book in the Underground Horsemen Series from Nashoda Rose. It is a complete standalone and you will not have to worry about a cliffhanger and waiting on the next book. Well, I should say you won’t have to deal with the cliffhanger but you will be waiting for the next book because this one was absolutely amazing. This book is dark and it will contains some triggers for some readers and you need to heed the warning in the beginning of the book. I have read every book that Nashoda Rose has ever written and it feels like it has been forever since I have read a new book by here so you can imagine how absolutely excited I was when I saw that she had a new book coming out.
This is the story of Vic Gabe and Macayla North. He is part of the Dark Horsemen group which is made up of Vic, Callum, Saint, North and Jaeg and you get to meet all of them in this book. But first you have the prologue and it really just is so touching and I loved it so much and just knew at that moment that one day these two would be something special. Vic remember the five second rainbird and Makaya does not. You can imagine the shock of Vic who has a job that requires him to travel all over the world and be gone for long periods of time and he has a cabin a very remote cabin in the woods that he can’t wait to get to. Things affect Vic differently than they do other people and he certainly has PTSD and just needs to be alone in the woods with miles and miles of nothing between him and the outside world. After a particularly grueling mission he is finally a back at his cabin and you can imagine his shock when there is a mat at this front door that he didn’t put there and the door is not locked and he can here someone in the woods running. The first time Vic and Macayla meet is unexpected and a little jarring but Macayla handles it like a pro and his friends sister is shocked to see him and this is when they find out that Macayla is pretty new to town and she needed a place to stay so Jaeg let her rent out his cabin since all of them thought he was never going to be coming back to it. Macayla isn’t alone though and has her son Jackson with her. But Vic is not having it and wants her out and gives her seven minutes to get it done. But, he has a change of heart and gives her till the end of the week. Of course this turns Macayla’s world upside down but she has to go to work and Vic just doesn’t understand about Jackson. The story of Jackson I am going to warn you is going to break your heart and man I really really hate her dad for various reasons. But I loved all of these character that we meet and especially Vic and Macayla. Vic isn’t your typical alpha male in a lot of stories. He is gruff and what you see is what you get with him basically. Macayla is the polar opposite of him but she is also going through a lot of things that Vic doesn’t know about and I can’t tell you about or that would be a big spoiler. I can say that I loved every single word in this book. I devoured it. I did not want it to end and I just was so invested in everything going on in this book. It will keep you one your toes, make you smile at times. wanna cry at others and then you almost have a heart attack. This is where I should probably admit that I didn’t think I was going to make it to the end of this book. Not because it was bad and not because I just didn’t want to. For the first time ever reading a book I had to take a few minutes and talk myself in to reading a chapter I knew was going to be rough for me personally because of a fear that I have. But I am happy to say I made it through, holding my breath but I made it. And I am so glad that I did. I am so jealous of you guys that you are going to experience this book for the first time. I know that it is one that I will read many times in the future. Now I sit and patiently wait for the next book.
