Author Corinne Michaels doesn’t disappoint with another amazing romantic suspense book. Corinne hooked me with Beloved and Beholden The story of Jackson and Catherine and when I didn’t think I would love another couple as much. She introduced me to Liam and Natalie in Consolation and Conviction. Now that I have read Defenseless I must say Mark and Charlie are my favorite couple.
In Defenseless Mark and Charlie are both badass she is a CIA agent and he is a former Navy Seal who have to work together to find the truth. They both have dominating personalities they will not give an inch about what they believe is the right thing to do with this case.
They are both extremely good a what they do and both think they know it all. This is an explosive, funny and very entertaining story. Charlie is stubborn she wants to fight this attraction but Mark is as stubborn as she is and will not stop trying to convince her that this is what they both need.
“He smiles and wraps his fingers around my arms like a vice. “F**k no, I don’t. I see through you, Charlie. You may be good at playing this game, but you don’t know who your opponent is.” Mark pulls me against his body. “You underestimate me, but I sure as hell don’t think you see me as a threat.” His lips close in.”

If you’ve been following Corinne Michaels since she first published, Mark Dixon is a character you’ve always wanted to know more about. He’s witty and loves to get under his friends skin. Mark knows exactly which buttons to push whether it be his friends or a criminal he’s interrogating.
Not one female has been able to capture Mark’s attention for long. He’s always been a ladies man, talking a big game, but never on a mission to find the right one. That is until he meets Charlie. Boy does she knock his socks off…but a couple of things moving against her, them. One – they’re waging a war in the Middle East. Two – she’s not his type.
Oh and for Charlie. She’s a no nonsense trained to kill, act, fake, finish the mission. The very mission that took a loved one away from her. Revenge can be sweet. It can also be highly dangerous.
This particular book of Corinne’s is stacked with suspense. She even gives you the slip a time or two trying to decipher what’s happening with her characters. Who done it? That’s for you to read and find out.
I won’t guarantee you that you’ll love this book. Someone might prove me wrong…though I don’t see how.
