I have loved my best friend for eleven years.
Eleven years of celebrations.
Eleven years of victories and losses.
Eleven years of inside jokes and shared smiles.
Eleven years of helping him raise his daughter as a single father.
He smiles at me and my world brightens.
He ignores me and I forget how to function.
He holds my hand and takes more of my heart.
He leaves and time stops.
We have both lost too much, but am I willing to risk the effects of falling again?
Stephanie’s 5 Star Review:
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
This book follows The Weight of Rain – which was my #1 book for 2015 – but can be read as a standalone. I was so excited this book was coming. I loved reading about Summer and Kash in TWoR. Kash is outgoing and definitely has his hands full with running his business/brand; his daughter – of whom he’s a single parent to; and his brother.
Summer has been friends with Kash since she was 11 years old. She’s fiercely protective of Kash and his family. There’s nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Her love is absolute though it’s about to be tested.
Gosh, everything I want to tell you about this story I can’t. I can’t possibly because it will give the entire book away. I’ll say this – Mariah Dietz has done another fantastic job at completely blowing me away with her characters. Her writing style is fluid. You can see the story playing out in your mind like a movie reel. I swear I can reach out and touch them like their tangible.
This book – I was so enthralled with the story that when the end of the book came – just before the epilogue – I found myself with leaky eyes. What the heck!? I don’t cry at stories. I can count less than a handful I remember crying over while reading. The Effects of Falling is just beautiful. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I.
