TBird’s Review:

Finding Peace

4 stars

I appreciated the fact the author took a love story and gave us some
suspense that I am not used to seeing in a book.  Kayla’s life was a tragic
story from the beginning, with being adopted and then having her parents’
divorce.  Being left in the dark most of her life she went through each day
staying with whoever wanted her at that time.  After an extended time with
her grandparents she finally landed in the home of her best friend Tessa.
Tessa’s dad and step mom brought Kayla in as another daughter and gave her
a safe place till graduation but more importantly they have a place to call
home.

The book starts out with Kayla being engaged to her boyfriend but there was
no love.  A past secret which you will find out about is what is keeping
them together for a while.  When she finally decides to break from of
obligation and guilt, Blake enters the picture and this is where she begins
to discover what love really is.

I wasn’t sure if I would like Blake in the beginning but just having Kayla
in his life turned his attitude around and made him into the loving man
that I could fall for in no time.  Neither of them made it easy on each
other, he would try to do what was right by his friends and not handle it
properly, she would assume the worse and pull away.  What I did love is
they wouldn’t let the other run, they forced communication with the other
till forgiveness and understanding was achieved.  Blake was going to have
to always consider that she had been left before by important men in her
life, she wasn’t going to handle him just not showing up well.  Kayla was
going to have to be honest and tell Blake what was going on with the
ex-boyfriend so he could protect her like his heart demanded.

The suspense part comes toward the end of the book when Kayla discovers the
truth about her family.  The scene when it was exposed left me angry at how
stupid the adults in her life had been, it wasn’t worth destroying her now
to keep such a secret, but then I was heartbroken for her because so much
could have been avoided had they just been upfront with her.  You will have
to read the book to see what I mean because I won’t risk spoiling this
moment for you.

I enjoyed the book and found it was a rather fast paced read.  The
secondary characters such as Tessa, Asher, Troy and Lisa, made the story
come alive for me as well as others you will meet in the story.  I love the
family that Kayla built among them while keeping her blood ties as strong
as she was able to do.  Life throws Kayla some wicked curve balls but she
is a strong female character that I really admired.
