Now humans live like rats, desperate for food and safety, the wall towering before us as a mocking reminder of what happenedโ€ฆ The wall that keeps the monsters locked away from us. The wall that keeps us safe. The wall that every day I sneak through. I thought I was safe in the light beyond its scarred concrete, I thought I knew the way of the world, but when night falls and Iโ€™m trapped beyond the wall the monsters come out to play. In an explosion of shadows, claws and tails. Their black eyes tracking me like prey until he comes. Their leaderโ€ฆ and he claims I’m his. I play along, I bide my time, but as past and present collide I find my carefully laid survival plan unravelling. The secrets the monsters keep making me realise the wall might not be to contain the monsters inside, but to keep the truth from getting out. But in that Forgotten City I find my purpose, my future. All the Monstrous Lies we were told coming unraveled and when they do sides must be chosen. Loyalties will be tested and the darkness might claim us all. *Monstrous Lies is the first book in the Forgotten City Series, all the books feature different characters but to fully enjoy the series I suggest reading the series in order.* Renee’s Five Star Reviewย  I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Well I do have to say that who would have ever guessed that I would be loving a book about monsters as much as I love Monstrous Lies. I am not a paranormal reader. They have just never been my thing. But I do love a good dystopian book and that drew me to this book but I ended up loving this book. Thirty years ago when the world as everyone knew it a wall was constructed to keep monstrous beasts inside it will the humans were moved outside of the wall. Aria is a girl who has always lived in the slums and she has always done everything she can to make just a tiny bit of money to survive. She has this way about her of finding rare things and then she brings them back to a collector for money she desperately needs. One day though when Talia a research scientist wants to go behind the wall and its to much money and two good of an opportunity in Aria’s eyes to pass up. It should be simple. Take Talia and go get old research files from the government research facility in the heart of the city. This should be easy because as long as you are out by dark you are safe because the monsters do not come out until after night falls. Akuji the leader of the warrior territory as there are three sections behind the wall. He is the tallest and biggest of them all and has been watching Aria come under the wall every day that she has done it. He is starting to become obsessed with her and he is determined to protect her at all costs. However he is more interest in knowing why she is bringing someone else under the wall with her. So, he naturally follow her more closely than he usually does and he knows that it is only a matter of time until he is going to have to make his presence known. He has after all met his mate and he can’t imagine any other one as being his mate. They of course have to meet first and you guys I am telling you it is quiet the meeting and I have to stop talking about this book or I am going to give something away This book sucked me in and I didn’t lay it down until I was finished. I loved everything about it and that really surprised me since I don’t usually read book like this. I am so glad I took the chance. it is a book I soon will not forget.

About Renee Henson

Renee Henson has an obsession with reading and reviewing. Especially anything that is a dark romance, fairy tale retelling, MC, and is trying her best to love the PNR worlds. Nothing is quiet as exciting to her as reading a good book and then talking about it or making comments while reading with her friends that have read the book too. She is always happiest with her kindle in her hand and her nose is a book. She has been reviewing for Stephanie's Book Reports for over ten years.
