All Jo Summers wants in life is to be happy. But her previous relationship led her to believe that happiness doesn’t exist without pain. Building a wall around herself, she refuses to let any man get close enough to break her down ? that is, until Blake Mackenzie walks into her life. She is drawn to him immediately and finds him too hard to resist even though she knows she should. When Blake finds out about Jo’s past, he makes it his mission to fix her and prove that happiness does exist without pain. Their journey isn’t without struggle, however, as Jo tries to walk away time and time again. But eventually she learns that it’s time to stop running and face her fears head-on.
TBird’s Review:
Be prepared to have your emotions tugged and the heart affected with this
story. It is seriously a story of a good man trying to erase the evils
that another man has done to a woman. To teach her to trust again, allow
someone to love her and an example of how powerful love can be when it is
allowed to enter a shattered heart again.
Jo is leaving her home and crossing the ocean for a fresh start. After a
horrific relationship with her ex, she is branching out her career in
America. Finding a roommate and trying to put the past behind her, she is
still nagged by the memories that she is trying to escape. Her soul was
broken into a million pieces, her trust in men is no longer functioning.
She has been reduced to nothing in her eyes when it comes to
relationships. When you read what she went through your heart will break
for her.
Blake is determined to prove her wrong. He was taken with her from the
beginning but he had no idea what he is up against. As he learns of her
past he is even more set on healing those old wounds and teaching her how
to love again. This won’t be easy since most of the book Jo is running
from him while he chases her. Fear drives her every decision for most of
the book, even though she was not alone in life, she had Casey to support
her and be the voice of reason, her fears really drove her life.
I loved Blake, he was so patient and loving toward Jo. Blake’s heart gets
broke in this process and thank goodness he had Alex to bust down the doors
in order to protect his friend. It took some time for me to really warm up
to Jo, especially when I was falling for Blake and hated seeing him try to
break down her walls over and over again. This was what got to me
emotionally as well, we could see his motive, understand her fear and we as
the reader could do nothing but read and hope.
I felt the author did a fabulous job at character development and the
writing style was smooth. It did not take long for me to get through this
book once I had started and for all of the frustration I felt for Jo, I
think it was brilliant in the way the author brought us into Blake’s
world. I am sure he felt that same frustration which I believe was why I
connected to Blake instantly. Once we were at the end of the book I swear
I was waiting for the Angels to sing as I sat back and took a deep breath
and said finally. If you are looking for an emotional roller coaster of a
love story this is the one for you. The author gives you pain, hope, love
and a lot of passion and dedication. New beginnings are hard enough but
when you take that first step without the ability to trust again, you have
a synopsis of Jo’s life that you are about to enter.
