I wasn’t planning on falling for Ethan Jamison, hell I wasn’t planning on our paths ever crossing. He’s the most popular guy at school and a complete player. Me; I’m the perpetual good girl, trying to carry out one last request. But when you make a promise, how far do you go to see it through?

~ Blair

It’s a running joke that I’m a terrible liar, if only people knew the truth. My whole life has been spent making excuses and deflecting questions. I was pretty good at it until Blair Thomas entered my world. She saw through the mask that everyone is so willing to accept. She makes me want to tell her all my secrets, but can she promise to keep them?

About Elle Brooks:

Hello…

I’m a little neurotic; I function on a tiny amount of sleep and a huge amount of caffeine. I love green skittles and have an irrational fear of stormy weather. When I’m not writing about super hot college guys, you can generally find me googling them…All in the name of research of course. I can be persuaded to do just about anything with the promise of a good book or a bottle of bubbles. Oh, and I also love to write.

Carla’s Review:

5 stars for Promises Hurt by Elle Brooks!  Man, I suffered from emotional whiplash while reading this book!  One minute I was crying, and the next minute I was laughing out loud.

Blair is an 18 yr old who has just lost her best friend, Emily. to cancer.  Emily was first diagnosed at the age of 15, and Blair basically put her life on hold to spend what time Emily had left with her.  A few months pass, and Blair finally reads the letter that Emily left for her,  The letter is a bucket list of all the things Emily wanted to do before she died.  There were several things that were not crossed off the list, and Emily’s last wish was for Blair to complete the list.

Ethan goes to school with Blair and Emily, and Emily had always had a massive crush on him.  When Blair agrees to tutor Ethan she discovers that he is not the cocky, arrogant guy that he pretends to be.  She finds herself falling for him. but she feels like she is betraying Emily.  Ethan and Blair begin a friendship that ultimately evolves to love.

Of course, there has to be some angst thrown in to keep the reader glued to her Kindle.  You keep reading because you just have to know how the story ends, and BAM, you are hit with a cliffhanger! I hope the next book is released soon, because I am dying to read it!  Even though I hate cliff hangers, I still loved this book.  I would highly recommend it.  Kudos to Elle Brooks for a job well done!

*I was given a copy of this book as a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review
