synopsis

What happens when you find the love of your life, then you lose them?

Pearson Amberry lost the only man she’d ever loved. She has secrets she’s kept close for many years. Descending into a downward spiral that she couldn’t pull herself out of, her life was fast becoming just an existence. That was until a new man entered her life. A man with secrets of his own, and when the love of her life comes back unexpectedly, she knows it’s time to come clean.

Conner McKenna took a step back when he hurt Pearson. He left for another country when his work took him there, even though he didn’t want to. After years of trying to be her friend, and wanting to be back in her bed, he decided enough was enough. When one of their friends is attacked, he realises that life is too short and he needs to move heaven and earth to try and win her heart one more time. However, when he realises the truth will he be able to deal with it, and will he still look at Pearson the same way?

What will happen when secrets are revealed, and emotions are running high? Can they move on from their past and can they recognise the love reflected in each other?

review

TBird’s Review:

I found this to be a gripping story of four friends who stuck together
through everything life had to throw at them.  Pea, Con, Soph and Saul,
grew up together with a load of memories that carried them through the
darkest times.  Between love, friendship, struggles, loss and
disappointment, it was clear there was always someone from the group to
stand up and be the leader, to carry them through the storm to the safe
side of life.

Pea and Con are the two main characters whose story will take over at
times.  Pea is an introvert; she has always been the quiet one.  Her mother
died when she was young and her grandmother raised her.  With her passing
she finds the only family she has left are her three friends.  She and Con
had tried to take the friendship to the next level and things seemed to
always derail the plans.  Secrets, travels, misunderstandings prevented
them from finding her happily ever after with the only man she has loved.
She is haunted by a tragedy involving one of the gang and a box that she
keeps ignoring in her house.  When she meets Dane she thinks that maybe
there might be something there, she feels comfortable with him and he works
with Soph, but he is also holding secrets and how involved is he with Soph
anyway.

Con has always felt protective of Pea, she took his heart.  He is finally
at the point that he accepts they need some space and he moves off to
another country.  He has no clue the secrets that she has kept, secrets
that will shatter his heart and could be the thing that keeps them apart
forever.  He longs for the missing member of their foursome, but he also
knows life goes on and it kills him to see Pea so shut off and living in a
world of guilt.

Soph and Saul both play a huge part in this story, sometimes they are the
voice of reason, other times they are the ones needing to be protected and
loved for a change.  They both came from families that didn’t appear
similar to Con and Pea but they know what it is to be loyal, dedicated and
loving in life.

I found this story draw me in at the first chapter, it made me feel like I
was part of the group, sharing the joy and heartache as life hits them full
force.  Watching Pea slowly come out of her shell and face her fears that
have kept her hostage in her life for years was inspiring. I was hard not
to love Con as he never truly moved on without his Pea by his side. As we
slowly  found out about their skeletons that they each  had guarded for
years it was beautiful watching them finally become the adults they were
always meant to become while still holding on to the bond that had carried
them through life.
