From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Driven series.
One Night. That’s all it was supposed to be.
Reeling from the sudden loss of her sister, Haddie Montgomery has sworn off relationships. All she wanted from Beckett Daniels was a sexy distraction to help her escape her pain for just a little while….There weren’t supposed to be any strings attached—so why can’t she shake the memory of that unforgettable night from her thoughts? Or the taste of his kiss from her lips?
No matter how hard Haddie tries to forget about him, Becks relentlessly tries to prove that she should start living for today. But she is determined to avoid romantic commitment, and she can always use her ex-boyfriend’s reappearance to help snuff out the slow burn within her that Becks has sparked….
Or will fate force her to realize that this kind of connection doesn’t come along very often and a chance at love is worth the risk?
I absolutely loved the original Driven series. When Penguin Group emailed me mentioning reviewing Slow Burn, I never thought I would be considered. When the printed ARC showed up on my doorstep I think I must have stared at the book for a couple minutes before it registered what I was holding!
Slow Burn is the story of Beckett (Beck), Colton’s best friend, and Haddie – Rylee’s best friend. The two met in Vegas when Colton and Rylee introduced the two at a party. There was an instant attraction.
Fast forward ahead about a year or so. Beck and Haddie have sent Rylee and Colton off on their honeymoon and are left to make sure everything is cleaned up from the reception. In that timeline Haddie lost her sister, Lexi, to breast cancer. Instead of the wild and crazy person Haddie was known to be she turned into a shell of herself. Wanting people to believe she was ok but was ready dying inside.
I don’t want to spoil the story for you as to where Haddie and Becks go from here, but I will say it’s a long haul for them. It was a real struggle for me to get into the beginning of this book. It really didn’t click for me until about 63% into the book and even more so around 85%. Haddie really drove me crazy in the beginning and that didn’t help my struggle. The author, K. Bromberg, poured some emotions into this story. I did cry towards the end of the story. I rarely do so, but it was one of those kind of stories.
If you’re like me and tend to avoid emotional reads – I would still recommend you read this story.
