Millie has struggled over the years to keep the spark alive in her relationship. Starting at a young age her life has been a series of trials and tribulations, and it’s only getting more complicated. She’s followed stepping stones that she wasn’t always sure were leading her in the right direction, causing her to wonder if she is on the right path.
Her husband, Brian, loves her dearly, but has a poor way of showing it. Stress easily beats him down, and his own protective nature seems to fight against him. He’s shutting down, virtually ignoring and alienating the people around him when they need him the most.
Millie lost her job and they’re about to lose the house. On the verge of losing it all, she questions everything. Where did it all go wrong? How did they get to this point? However, the answers could be more unsettling than anticipated.
Hearts will be broken when long held secrets are revealed. Is a chance at happiness worth the destruction it leaves in its wake? Is it worth the risk? Worth the pain for everyone involved? Worth the effort? Is she somebody worth it?
Stephanie’s 4 Star Review: I was gifted a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.
Millie and Brian are struggling. They’ve not dealt with issues in their marriage and their finances are in the toilet. Amazingly Millie wins a free trip for two to Tampa, FL and she’s hoping she and Brian can reconnect during the trip. Satisfying their sexual craving for each other has never been an issue. That part of their trip is most successful, however, jealousy and the need to one up the other after a fight causes a big rift in their relationship. Further apart than they were before the trip Millie struggles to find a way to keep her marriage and mend her heart.
Brian isn’t willing to change much about himself. He’s not extremely remorseful in his reaction to his mistakes.
Enter Millie’s old flame, Dean. He offers her a much needed job as his assistant and stands by her the whole time she’s fighting to figure out what direction her marriage is going in.
Here’s my opinion on these guys….I think Brian is a classic case of idiot! He doesn’t realize the gift right in front of him. 15 years of marriage he’s willing to throw away just for his own selfishness. Dean seems genuine to me. He’s very sincere in his thoughts and compliments toward Millie. Yeah, he has an ulterior motive of becoming friends with Millie again and then seeing if there’s anyway to rekindle what their relationship once was before he left her in high school.
Millie was struggling with her marriage prior to Dean’s return so it’s only fair to give her the run down. She was depressed and in complete denial in regards to her marriage. There are signs everywhere that she and Brian need to change something or else it will be a lost cause. I think she had every right to question her husbands fidelity. He’s completely shady with some of his actions. She has some tough choices to make, and some explaining to do.
Of course there’s a bomb dropped at the end of the book. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the next book. I am looking forward to reading it.
