As Alexandra tries to conform to her new life, she soon discovers that betrayal lies inside the castle walls. When noblewomen plot against her, Alexandra ends up on the receiving end of Branford’s rage. Earning the trust of her wary husband will be no easy task for the young handmaid.
Branford may know his way around their bedchamber, but he’s finding himself ill-prepared to handle the duties of both prince and husband. His missteps bring down the wrath of the queen, and he will have to do everything in his power to atone for his transgressions. Branford must find a way to open his heart to his new wife if either of them has a chance of overcoming the treachery ahead.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Unexpected Circumstances: The Seduction is the second book in Shay Savage’s seven book Unexpected Circumstances Series. It is also a historical romance with each book releasing every two weeks.
Alexandra is trying to get adjusted to her new life being married to Branford. Within the castle though noble women are plotting against Alexandra. After they’ve succeeded with their devious actions Branford is furious and Alexandra is on the receiving end of his rage. All Alexandra wants to do is be a good wife to Branford but no one is teaching her and he’s not opening himself up to her. How is she ever going to earn Branford’s trust if he won’t open up to her?
I’m so in love with this series. I could not wait to get this second book in my hand. I literally was counting the days and I’m not a historical romance fan…..till now.. The Seduction picks up right where Unexpected Circumstances left off. It is so hard to review a book that is a hundred pages without giving something away. I am a huge non spoiler review writer. I loved every single second this second book. The emotions just ooze off the pages and we get to experience the development of Branford and Alexandra.
You do not want to miss this series. It still shocks me in one sense that I am hooked as hard as I am. I think about these characters and what’s going to happen all the time. Shay Savage is absolutely amazing. It is a testament to her ability as a author to have non history’s romance readers waiting on bated breath for the next book. It’s a series you do not want to miss.
Carla’s Five Star review
The Seduction is the second book in the Unexpected Circumstances series. It is not a stand alone, so to avoid confusion, you need to read the first book in the series which is The Handmaid.
Alexandra is trying her best to adjust to her new role as Branford’s wife, but it is not an easy task. When she falls victim to a scheme concocted by a couple of noblewomen, she once again finds herself on the receiving end of her husband’s rage. Branford reacts impulsively and without thought assuming the worst of his wife. Of course, Queen Sunniva sees through the treachery at once and is infuriated by Branford’s reaction. As a result, she demands that Branford and Alexandra be sequestered for three days, so they can get to know each other better. During this time, Branford shares some of the details of his past. Once she learns these details, will Alexandra be able to forgive him and move past the horrible way he treated her? Will Branford learn to completely trust his new wife?
If you would have told me three months ago that I would be completely wrapped up in a historical read, I would have thought you were crazy! I have never enjoyed the historical romance genre, and the fact that I love this series is a true testament to the amazing writer that Shay Savage is! The growth seen in both Branford and Alexandra is such a pleasure to read. I can’t wait to read more of their story in The Consummation which is the third book in this amazing series!
Excerpt:
“Please don’t get rid of me!” I finally cried out and then covered my mouth with my hand, horrified.
“Oh, Alexandra!” Branford shook his head. “Why would you think such a thing?”
I had to look into his eyes because he sounded so sincere, and I needed to understand.
“Because I’m not good enough,” I said. “I’m only a handmaid. I don’t know how to be your wife. I have no idea how to behave as the wife of a prince.”
“Alexandra,” he said, slowly drawing my name out. “I’m not going to send you away.”
“You could,” I whispered, “or worse.”
“Alexandra,” Branford repeated, his voice nearly as quiet as my own. “Have I given you any reason to think I would do such a thing?”
Sunniva’s words about assertiveness and being noble of heart came back to me. Maybe he hadn’t said as much in my presence, but he hadn’t said anything to the contrary, either.
“You haven’t given me reason to think you would not.”
“Why would I cast you out?” Branford asked.
Did he want me to list all the reasons again, or was he looking for something else? I was certain I had spent more time second-guessing myself in the last two days than I had in my entire life.
“You have…you could…there could be someone else you want to choose instead,” I whispered.
“What on earth are you talking about?”
I took a deep breath and decided if I didn’t say it now, I probably never would.
“I saw you…last night,” I said, hesitating a moment. I took a deep breath. “You were with that pretty woman from the court.”
I felt his chest muscles contract under the side of my face, and his arms gripped me tighter for a moment before he relaxed again.
“What do you mean, you saw me?”
“You were in the garden,” I said. “While I was waiting for you, I went out to see what it looked like at night. You were there…with that lady.”
“And?”
“You were talking…and I heard you say…” I paused, both to try to remember his exact words as well as wonder what on earth I thought I was doing. If my words were taken as an accusation—right or wrong—against my husband and prince, the consequences could be dire. He owned me, and if he decided to either cast me out for the favor of a new wife or keep me to the side as he entertained himself with someone else, there would be nothing I could do about it.
“Say what, Alexandra?”
“That you would have to replace me.”
