Jennifer Sharpe is a divorced mother of two with a problem just about any working parent can relate to: her boss expects her to work as though she doesn t have children, and her children want her to care for them as though she doesn t have a boss. But when, through a fateful coincidence, a brilliant physicist comes into possession of Jennifer s phone and decides to play fairy godmother, installing a miraculous time-travel app called Wishful Thinking, Jennifer suddenly finds herself in possession of what seems like the answer to the impossible dream of having it all: an app that lets her be in more than one place at the same time. With the app, Jennifer goes quickly from zero to hero in every part of her life: she is super-worker, the last to leave her office every night; she is super-mom, the first to arrive at pickup every afternoon; and she even becomes super-girlfriend, dating a musician who thinks she has unlimited childcare and a flexible job. But Jennifer soon finds herself facing questions that adding more hours to her day can t answer. Why does she feel busier and more harried than ever? Is she aging faster than everyone around her? How can she be a good worker, mother, and partner when she can t be honest with anybody in her life? And most important, when choosing to be with your children, at work, or with your partner doesn t involve sacrifice, do those choices lose their meaning? Wishful Thinking is a modern-day fairy tale in which one woman learns to overcome the challenges and appreciate the joys of living life in real time."

Renee’s Four Star Review
I received a copy of Wishful Thinking through the Summer Reading Challenge for Stephanie’s Book Reports in exchange for an honest review.

Wishful Thinking is my second read in the Summer Reading Challenge. I really enjoyed this book. It was different in ways from what I usually read. I’m not a huge Science Fiction reader but maybe I should try it more often. I discovered something new I like from this book which is always a good thing for a avid reader.

If you could be in two places at one time, would you? if there was an application for that would you try it? Jennifer is an over worked, middle class, divorced mother of two who struggles to keep up at work, home, and with spending enough to time with her young sons. She loses her smartphone and it later just happens to turn up on her doorstep with a new app installed. This app allows her to time travel!!! She can now be in two places at one time for putting in the demanding hours her job and boss require all while picking up her boys from school and spending quality time with them. She is now Superwoman and Supermom at the same time. Having the app however begs the question, how will she use the app and will being able to have it all make her really happy? But……all this fast paced living has to come with consequences right? Jennifer is tired, experiences strange sensations, losing friendships, and aging rapidly. Is it really worth it?

Wishful Thinking is a well written character driven novel that I certainly got lost in. I think the book has the opportunity to hit home with a lot of women with way to much on their plate and not enough time in the day. Jennifer really grabbed my heart quickly while Dr Sexton, her neighbor and inventor of the application will have you cracking up. He is by far my favorite character in the book. It’s a book in which the impossible is possible. It’s a little on the made me anxious in places about Jennifer getting caught using the app side.Would work Jennifer show up at the boys school while with the kids Jennifer showed up at work. I feel like readers are going to have to get totally lost in the book and leave reality behind or they are going to be saying that’s impossible a lot. I say, grab your favorite beverage, get comfy in your favorite reading spot, dive in, and get lost. It’s well worth leaving reality behind for a little while.
